Two sent for trial over loaded gun found in Darwen

A SECOND man has appeared before magistrates charged in connection with the discovery of a loaded handgun in a car abandoned on a pub car park in Darwen.
Blackburn magistrates heard the car had been stolen in Manchester and had false number plates on when it was found on the car park of the Borough Hotel, Darwen.
Another set of number plates was found in the boot and the gun, with a bullet in the top chamber which meant it was ready to fire, was found in the glove box. And District Judge Peter Ward told the court it was clear that the find was linked to “serious, organised crime”.
Jack Costello, 39, of Clayton Street, Great Harwood, was directed to stand trial at Preston Crown Court after pleading not guilty to possessing a round of .22 ammunition. The judge remanded Costello in custody for the preparation of committal papers.
Last week Ian Millner, 24, of Manor Road, Darwen, was sent in custody to Preston Crown Court charged under the Firearms Act with possession of a Brocock Air Pistol which had been adapted to fire .22 bullets.
