AN East Lancashire sports nutrition firm has served up a winning formula for US Open and Olympic tennis champion Andy Murray.

Science in Sport (SiS) makes award-winning gels, powders, bars and supplements used by elite athletes around the world.

Murray, who won the US Open in New York on Tuesday, is a big fan of the products.

And founder Tim Lawson revealed Murray's nutritionist Mark Ellison visited the firm's Innovation Centre in Nelson this week to talk through his nutrition plan for next year.

He said: “We are the best- kept secrets in elite sport.

“Andy Murray recognises that SiS delivers advanced nutrition and that’s why he chooses to use it even though we do not pay him to do so. His team trust that we provide them with safe and technically strong products and we ensure that they get the highest level of quality.”

Murray uses the products to manage his hydration and energy levels.

Other famous names to have used SiS include Usain Bolt at the 2008 Olympics, explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, and the Great Britain sailing team.

Olympic and world champion cyclist Rebecca Romero MBE is the official brand ambassador.

SiS was official sports nutrition supplier to Rabobank Cycling Team, Pro Team Astana, Katusha Team and Radioshack Nissan Trek in this year’s Tour de France and also supplies Rapha Condor Sharp, Node 4 Giordana and the Endura Racing Teams.

SiS, founded in 1992, was acquired by Provexis for £8million in 2011. It employs 45 people.
