Call for discounted internet tariff for East Lancashire social housing residents

ROSSENDALE and Darwen MP Jake Berry has called on the Government to look into a discounted internet tariff for people living in social housing.

He was speaking during a House of Commons debate on universal credit and welfare reform on Tuesday.

In a question directed at minister for work and pensions Iain Duncan Smith he said: “Although figures vary, you will be aware that the vast majority of people living in social housing have no access to the internet.

“Will he explore the possibility of a social housing broadband tariff to enable those who want to claim their benefits online to do so?”

In response, Mr Duncan Smith said: “Absolutely right. That is exactly what we are trying to do.”

Nice one, let's give them something else for free/cheap so,they can claim easier ....if it was up to me you would get a daily allowance that would be collected in person at 6am every day.

Genuine people In need excluded of course, we should look after the afflicted, I'm talking about the parasites

This man must be some form of a Human "Cabbage", why would anybody want to go to work if the government gave discounts for people living in social housing & at present getting very good handouts for free. your suggestion is simply pathetic: Jake you need to get a real Job mate.

And who is going to fund the hardware needed to hook up to his almost free internet..? Or is there a plan to hand out free laptops for benefits users..?

I just cannot believe this mans suggestions,(Jake Berry) he must be away with the fairy's,
suggesting free Internet or heavily discounted internet accounts. what would the working people living near to these people think of this Pathetic scheme.
I bet the residents applying for this discount must think Hell its Xmas time early.????

What next a discounted Sky subscription? Oh sorry they all have Sky already don't they? Can't they all access the internet on their mobiles anyway? There doesn't seem to be any shortage of smart phones amongst the poor and downtrodden.

I wonder why I go out and work, I really do. Think I might quit my job, stay at home, drink all day, smoke all day, breed relentlessly and the system will again make it easy for me to do so! I wonder how long it will be before these people living in social housing will have new computers, games consoles and the like to take advantage of this cheap Internet and I wonder who will have to pay for them?

I nearly choked on my Coco pops reading this farcical article.
Surely the idea is to get these people up and out of bed in a morning, 'actively seeking work' and not laying in bed, ordering free delivery of beer, fags and food online?

Is this man for real? What a complete joke. If they want to use the Internet get up at 9am and go use the free computers in their local library rather than once again lying at home expecting something for free!

What more freebies, I suppose they can hook it all up to the large flat screen telly that everyone seems to have. Where does it end, free line rental? Free internet security so the claim form cant be hacked lol. Money for the extra leccy running cost etc?

When a conservative MP is dreaming up such absurd nonsense, you know the country is in big trouble.

They already hand out free laptops - you just have to pretend you're going to go to college. I know this as I have bought several from the various pawnbrokers of the area - brand new in the box.
The pawnbrokers tell me that they get hundreds - I never pay more than £200 so they must sell/pawn them for £100 - £150.

Couldn't the couch potatoes waddle down to the nearest library to use the Internet for free? They've got rid of most of the books so that people can play games on 'puters all day and watch the cricket. Surely the gargoyles and scroungers don't need even more excuse not to get off their behinds?

What an enormous Plonker. This month he has already spoken about the Nutters and now shows that he is Nutter number one. He is nuttier than our previous useless MP and that is some going. But don't just post a message here. Write to him at House of Commons and better still get your Labour councillors to write in protest as well. Oops, forgot, they support skiving scumbags. So who can we vote for next time? No-one.

Not much different to the Governments Policy of Giving Discounted High Speed Internet to those who are lucky enough and rich enough to enjoy the Rural Idyll in what is left of Our Villages.

unfortunately this government is deliberately targeting "the afflicted" i presume you mean disabled people? next year will see people who live in social housing with a spare room for overnight carers being bedroom taxed oh and a special broadband tariff suggested by jake berry we currently have even the cbi saying that duncan-smiths big idea is not going to work so this is merely rearranging deck chairs on the titanic
