Free booklet helps East Lancashire over-60s get their benefits

A FREE booklet helping older people in Lancashire find all the information they need about pensioners’ benefits and concessions has been given a new edition.
Called 60+… Benefits For You, the leaflet is produced by the county council’s welfare rights service, and is free to all over-60s living in the authority area.
It contains a wide range of welfare information, from the main benefits older people can claim, to details of county council and other agencies’ services, such as the NHS, district councils, and Help Direct.
Other information includes help with household expenses and fuel costs, and with travel and leisure activities.
The booklet also explains changes to benefits which come into force in April including winter fuel payments.
County Coun Mike Calvert, cabinet member for community services said: “Research shows the over-60s are more likely to miss out on benefits than any other group. The aim of this booklet is to help older people to maximise their benefits.”
