Blackburn man hit side of bouncer's head in row

A 23-YEAR-OLD man was given a last chance after assaulting a doorman in the Last Orders pub in Blackburn.

The town’s magistrates heard Kieron Aaron Hopkinson stepped in as the bouncer manhandled his dad out of the pub.

Hopkinson, of Cornwall Avenue, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assaulting Kenneth Ogilvie. He was sentenced to eight weeks in prison suspended for 12 months, ordered to do 100 hours unpaid work, made subject to community supervision with an anger management requirement and ordered to pay £100 compensation and £85 costs.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said there was an incident in the pub which resulted in Mr Ogilvie attempting to eject Hopkinson senior.

“He grabbed him by the neck and was dragging him out when Hopkinson came over and punched him on the side of the head,” said Miss Allan.

Aftab Bakhat, defending, said his client’s girlfriend was the worse for drink and he was asked to escort her from the pub.

“He was doing that and there was no problem until his father decided to intervene and remonstrate with the bouncers,” said Mr Bakhat.

“They took exception, his partner got involved and he accepts he punched the bouncer once to the side of the head.”
