Accrington family of heart op tot raise cash for hospital

THE FAMILY of a toddler born with an underdeveloped heart is to raise money for the hospital which cares for him.
The parents of Oswaldtwistle youngster Reece Scott will sit down with doctors next month to try and find the best solution for a leaking heart valve, which will kill him if left untreated.
It will lead to a lifesaving operation for Reece, who was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which was fatal until the 1980s.
Reece’s family say they are so grateful to doctors and nurses at Alder Hey Children’s hospital in Liverpool who have already seen Reece through two operations so far.
The family are holding a family fun day to raise funds for Alder Hey at the end of the month at Emmanuel Pentecostal Church in Accrington.
In September Reece will be reviewed by doctors who will decide whether a donor valve or a pig valve can prevent further problems.
His mitral valve is currently leaking, which separates the blood flow between the upper and lower chamber of the left side of the heart.
Reece, who turns two on Saturday will be with family and friends at the fundraising fun day on Bank Holiday Monday, August 27.
The event at the Oxford Road church will include stalls, a bouncy castle and funfair rides from 10am.
