Blackburn missing man’s body is found near reservoir

THE body of a 59-year-old man was found in woodland near to a reservoir after a 24-hour search by police and mountain rescue teams.

The man, from Blackburn, who police have refused to identify at the request of his family, was discovered in a wooded area close to Rake Brook Reservoir on the outskirts of Abbey Village.

He hadn’t been seen since Sunday evening.

He was reported missing to police on Monday and his car was found on the moorland roadside of Belmont Road, near Rake Brook Reservoir.

Police began a search, enlisting the help of Bowland and Pennine Mountain Rescue and Bolton Mountain Rescue in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Bolton Mountain Rescue team leader Garry Rhodes said: “With mounting concern for the welfare of the missing person, the search was extended to involve mountain rescue and additional Police resources, resulting in the early morning request for our services. The team was deployed in searching margins of Rake Brook Reservoir in the Roddlesworth reservoir system, and woodlands on the outskirts of Abbey Village.”

After being stood down at 6.30am, the mountain rescue teams were called back at 9.30am Wednesday.

Mr Rhodes said: “We went back and a body was found in a woodland area next to the reservoir at about 1.30pm.”
