A CONTROVERSIAL lap dancing club has opened its doors.

The ribbon to launch the icandy club was cut by East Lancashire personality Margo Grimshaw during a special ceremony in Accrington town centre on Friday night.

The club, in Blackburn Road, had faced a battle to get off the ground after opposition from residents and recruitment agencies, a lack of dancers and a 1,500-signature petition against it.

But bossses said it would provide a boost to the town’s economy, would not be open during the day and that the inside of the club will not be visible to passers-by.

Manager Kate Hartley, 45, said: “It is very a proud day for us, we have faced a tough battle to reach this stage but we haven’t let that deter us and we have kept on going.

“We are open for business now and it is a great feeling.

“The final piece of the jigsaw is to get the VIP bar open.

“We have had a lot of support to get open as well, a lot more than we expected, and the feedback we have received so far has been very positive.”

Hyndburn Council gave the venue the go ahead in April concern from residents who feared it would give Accrington the wrong image.

The decision was made at a planning meeting with chairman Coun Bernard Dawson casting the deciding vote after a tie.

Where people come to see 'em
They really are a scream

A broomstick you can crawl on

If you like looking at young heroin addicts with bodies covered in stretch marks, then Skankrington is for you.

1. Bernard has got free dances for life;
2. Hopefully, Margo didn't get her baps out and
3. I understand an application for another lap dancing club has been made for Clitheroe.

2 for 5p - Instead of hiding behind a pseudonym and then slinging mud at Bernard Dawson, why don't you use your proper name and produce the evidence.

VIP = Very Inebriated Pervert

VIP = Very Incapable Pervert

Will there be surveillance video and/or paparazzo pics of customers? Any with plans either to raise or lower the status of this venue will supply both, and allow the rest of us to judge. Such practices are of course common in London, so why should Accrington follow, or not follow? This approach will have been examined by all parties, will it not?

Mmm... if there was a determined attempt to bring the matter to court then 2 for 5p's identity would be revealed. Better, then, to correspond using one's given name... innit?

It might be a good thing for Accrington, least it will keep the locals off the streets flashing at schoolgirls and raping old ladies.

His real name is Richard Head (we all call him D1ck Head)

Apparently 1500 people were totally ignored when the objections were put to the Planning committee. If the population of Accrington cannot be bothered about what happens in their town, this is what will happen when applications are considered. Apathy rules apparently!
My view ion this issue is that applications such as this one for icandy should be subject to a probationary period. If, at any time the business is found to be unsuitable, or is causing undue concern, it should be summarily closed with no appeal!
