Intelligent traffic lights to be installed at Hyndburn's 'worst junction'

A BOROUGH’S ‘worst junction’ will see intelligent traffic lights installed to stop queuing chaos.

The problem junction at the gateway to Church and Accrington, commonly sees drivers wait up to 20 minutes just to turn. Daily queues at the junction of Dunkenhalgh Way, Henry Street, Hyndburn Road and Dill Hall Lane led the area’s county councillor to campaign for action to be taken.

Coun Malcolm Pritchard said the problems caused on a daily basis showed a clear need for the light sequence to be adjusted.

Lancashire County Council have now released funding for the project, which will see intelligent lights at the junction. The new lights will be fitted with Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation (MOVA) technology which senses when traffic queues are starting to build.

The sensors are then able to efficiently programme light changes to clear traffic flows quickly and easily. Drivers’ main complaint was that the current lights system does not allow a filter lane for traffic from Henry Street and Church to turn right, causing major queues as drivers have to wait for a lull.

Engineers at LCC assessed the result of traffic counts and developed options using computer programs to assess impact elsewhere. LCC are also to install central white line marking to help position waiting right turners.

Coun Pritchard, who said the scheme will cost approximately £30,000 said: “It’s fantastic news. This junction has been a misery for drivers for so long and now a plan is place to make things better. Hopefully it will see an end to queues in this part of the borough.”

Roundabouts are the way forward but motorists need to be trained how to use them.
I always give way to those ON the roundabout and not them 50metres to my right waiting also for those 50metres to there right and so on.

Oh really? Well the roundabouts at Junction 6 and Junction 5 worked well as roundabouts didnt they. Oh wait, hang on, they do now, AFTER they put traffic lights on them.

Oh really, just look at the traffic flow inbetween light changes.

I still find it hard to ignore my natural instincts and GO at a traffic light on a roundabout when a wagon travelling at lord knows' what speed is approaching me to the right.

I dont need to. I look at the road that I used to have to queue on, but dont any more.

There isn't enough parents walking there sprogs to school.. Thats the simple basics to the traffic problem in church. "LAZY PARENTING" Best thing about it is the fact that its only a few hundred yards to any of the schools from Church.

The lights are already staggered for traffic travelling towards Accy / Ossy from Dunkenhalgh Way and for those travelling towards the M65 from Hyndburn Road.
The problem is anyone wanting to turn right travelling up or down Dill Hall Lane.
Wouldn't it have been a much cheaper option just to stagger those too in a similar way to the Asda junction on Hyndburn Road itself?

Some of these bone idle parents don't pick up their tax zappers untill way after 4pm 5pm in some cases. The congestion is caused by lazy parents clogging up junctions all over the country not just in Church if they are using their postcode to house their sprogs in Education establishments then they should be in walking distance from the school they should be using. But if these dodgey parents who use addresses of other members of their families to get a better schooling then we are going to have them running their sprogs all over the borough let alone clogging up Dill Hall Lane..

So congestion is the fault of lazy parents? Do you realise how mad that sounds?
How about congestion is the fault of workers who will not use public transport? I still do not see one bit of sense in blaming parents for congestion that usually happens after 4. Even if some parents pick their children up later it may put 10 extra cars on the junction. You are rambling, yes i understand that some parents are lazy and that some people use different addresses to get the better schools but what this has to do with a very busy junction is beyond me.
Im all for ranting, i love a good rant, but at least make sure you are ranting about the subject in topic or else it makes no sense.
