Plaque to be replaced for Alfred Wainwright's anniversary

WAINWRIGHT enthusiasts hope a missing plaque inscribed with a panoramic view from above Windermere will be replaced in time for a special anniversary.

A drawing of the panorama seen from Orrest Head by legendary Blackburn fell walker and writer Alfred Wainwright was mounted on a Westmorland slate plinth in 2002.

But it is thought thieves or vandals removed it and now a joint project between Windermere Town Council and The Wainwright Society will see it replaced.

Mayor of Windermere Coun Joan Stocker said: “It’s an important ten-year anniversary for the Wainwright Society this year and we wanted to mark it by replacing this plaque.”

The new plaque will be inscribed with the same drawing and made in local slate to resist vandalism and will be fixed to the existing plinth by Windermere town steward, Gary Hancox.

Peter Linney, secretary of The Wainwright Society, said Orrest Head was the ‘Holy Grail’ where it all started for the author of the ‘Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells’ books.

LT, instead of "for legal reasons", please explain why there is censorship.

The main reason that comments may not be made is simply because in spite of the caveat to posters which reads,
"Remember you are personally responsible for what you post on this site and must abide by our site terms. Do not post anything that is false, abusive or malicious."
it is not possible for anyone whom makes a complaint about what is written, to take action against any libellous posts.
Whether they like it or not, LT is responsible for what is written in these posts and like any company, it seeks to protect it's own interests and that of it's shareholders from being embroiled in costly legal action.
If say, I wrote something that is wholly untrue and extremely defamatory against a person, either directly or in a cryptic form that anyone would know immediately who I meant, the phonelines would glow, as has been the case of late, LT would say that they do issue the reminder but that someone chose to ignore it. The legal eagles would then say, but you published it and therein lies the rub. Now we are in a legal minefeild that will take lots of money in legal fees... need I say more?
One might easily say that they were of the opinion that certain managerial persons and others in distant parts were crooks but couched in such terms, one could easily say that they were referring to former Polly Peck boss, Asil Nadir and not the person that came to you mind at first.
Am utterly convinced that all the protests, letters, journalists, columnists, comments by senior clerics, mentions in the House of Commons, chit-chat on MOTD and the rest, have not failed to raise an sense of 'what's going on here' within the FA and rightly so.

In making this comment, my dear reader, you should take my word for it when I state categorically that I am in no way connected to LT at all.

However, with that said, I do know a way of being a right pain to certain people using a tactic of disruption that is legal. So, would the person who organises the protests contact me at, woolywords @ yahoo.ca , for further details. The rest as they say, I keep under my hat.
Good result today at Ewood but....

That much I had worked out, and thanks for that. But exactly WHO is the person/organisation who is preventing our freedom of expression? The truth will be out there eventually and they will then be the subject of the most vitriolic out-pourings imaginable from MANY quarters. I simply want to be clear on WHO ! I am angry.

Burner, am not prepared to pour oil on burning coals but..
This thing only got all legal after someone, wholly unconnected with the company itself, put thier oar into an already muddied pool. Far from calming the situation it only served to make matters worse, for all concerned. The fact this individual derives his income on many levels from the company, does not give him the right to know what is best for all concerned unless of course, there is an hidden agenda. In which case, I suggest, that they append the following to the job title, provocateur.
Which would seem to fit his actions, most admiralbly, given his actions.

Here's a thought...
What would be his cut of the parachute payments, if the company were to find itself somewhere else than it is today?

My only motivation today is to promote and give vehicle to discussion ( and thanks for your contribution, ww ).
.
However, I honestly think the LT itself owes its readers a FULL explanation - the sooner the better, but eventually will do.
