Snow falls across East Lancashire

SNOW has fallen across parts of East Lancashire this afternoon, with weather experts warning of a prolonged chill to come.

Wintry showers covered areas of Accrington and Pendle and Rossendale, but most places stayed dry.

Experts at the Met office say the cold snap will grip through to next week, as cold weather from the east pushes milder Atlantic air away.

The weekend will see widespread overnight frosts with maximum temperatures during the day of around 5 °C and temperatures of around -1 °C at night.

Chris Tubbs, chief forecaster at the Met Office, said: "At the moment we have a high pressure system over eastern Europe trying to push cold air in from the east, while milder Atlantic air is trying to push in from the west.

"The colder air is set to win over the next few days, bringing a risk of snow to western areas on Monday morning.

“Looking further ahead into February, there is uncertainty over how this finely balanced situation will play out, with colder conditions more likely to dominate but milder weather could still return."

Just what I thought - I laughed out loud at the last sentence. They have to "cover their backs" of course - what are they paid for? I remember at work when I was asked why a certain order (forecast) had not turned up. My reply "It's only a forecast, you know" so I have no reason to complain!!

It's the Met Office. They haven't got time to give accurate forecasts, they are too bust counting their performance bonuses.

Looks like Jerome's lawyers have had another busy day. No comments allowed on Rovers stories for legal reasons again. Kean out. Venkys out. Anderson out. Censorship out.
