Accrington Stanley shares scheme rockets to 300

A CAMPAIGN to sell shares in Accrington Stanley has seen its Christmas sales goal exceeded by 100 sales.

The club, which launched the scheme in October, had planned to sell 200 shares by the end of the year, but has already seen 300 sold.

Stanley are now planning to target shareholders in other parts of the country.

Chief executive Rob Heys and club chairman Ilyas Khan hit the centre of London yesterday to promote the club accompanied by models wearing the Stanley strip.

After receiving an ‘excellent response’ from Londoners, the club said it plans to hold similar promotions in Liverpool and Manchester.

Mr Heys said: “Everybody was a bit wary at first but we had the girls with us handing out literature. When word spread it was Accrington Stanley we got an excellent response.

“It’s amazing how many people stopped to talk with us who had a story to tell about Stanley. Either they knew someone who had played for us, or they had a great memory of a game against Chelsea.

“I don’t think any other club would have got the response we did and we hope to get the same response in other parts of the country.

"We did the business district and then we had a kick about in Trafalgar Square. The feedback we got was really inspiring and we spoke to people who buy shares as part of their daily business, which was good.”

Overall the club aims to raise up to £1million by offering fans the chance to own a share in the club.

The club is to release 9,999 shares over the next two years, which fans will be able to purchase at £100 each.

The shares, which will give voting rights to owners, are expected to make-up around 80 per cent of the equity of Stanley.

Accy Stanley is a legend! "The most famous little club in the world!" Whilst many Irishmen support Arsenal, MU, Chelsea or Liverpool, Accrington Stanley is known by them all and the strip is in demand! My Grandsons who support that team from Manchester which wears red...and Liverpool F.C. also support from a distance Accy Stanley and wear the shirts with pride!

Accrington is a great town with a great history of industry and sacrifice. A great town with a great Football Club which has risen from the ashes and refuses to die!

Well done Stanley!!!

As I lifelong Claret, the only other club I will ever watch are Stanley,I laugh when people say its not the same Club that left the league in 1962,TOSH its exactly the same club there has only ever been one club with this name,I would urge all Clarets and Rovers fans to also watch Stanley the 44 years away was a tragedy for the county and must never be allowed to happen again,I respect Mr Khan a true Lancastrian intrested in the fans and the club its a discrace that the same kind of people don't control the Blues who are being destroyed by greedy foreign Parasites !!!!

Accrington deserve a team that is successful. Most of the fans are dedicated followers. I do hope that they are successful with their share issue. It is very innovative in going around the country letting everyone know of their situation. They are known world-wide by many people.
Good luck!

Just changing the subject now that Stanley seem to be back on a sound financial footing. It wasn't that long ago that your club was in dire financial trouble and i and quite a few other people from Chorley FC made a donation and attended a game to help your club out. Now, due to circumstances beyond our control. We find ourselves with a £50,000 black hole shortfall in the clubs finances. I am now appealing to all loyal Stanley supporters to either return the good will gesture we showed to you in your hour of need by attending a game at Victory Park or alternatively hold a bucket collection at your next home game supporting the "Save the Magpies" campaign. Stanley season ticket holders can gain access to any home game for £5 on production of their season tickets at the turnstiles. I'm sure Accrington Stanley FC won't us down.

Thanks, your support is really appreciated. Hope you enjoy the game and the Chorley hospitality. We are trying to attract local support from our neighbouring clubs who either are playing away or are playing tomorrow.
