‘HIGHLY skilled’ criminals have started stealing the entire dashboards of cars, including steering wheel, airbags, stereo, glove box and displays.

Police said the incidents were ‘highly unusual’ and took place over night by organised criminals, possibly working to order.

There have been two separate thefts have happened in Blackburn since the weekend.

Police Constable Claudio Fardella said: “It is likely these cars were deliberately targeted for replacement parts or have been stolen to order.

“This is an unusual form of car crime and would require the thief to be highly organised and skilled.

“I would urge people to be vigilant and ask anyone with any information about either of these incidents to contact police.”

The first theft early on Saturday when a Fiat 500 in Kirby Road, Ewood, was targeted.

Police said a rear window was smashed before thieves broke in through the passenger door. Then, using tools, they have removed the steering wheel and the entire dashboard and instruments before making off.

The second incident took place over night between Sunday and Monday when a red Honda Civic was targeted on a driveway in Linden Lea, Feniscowles.

On this occasion the rear nearside window was smashed and several parts of the interior were stolen including the dashboard, centre hub, two front seat belts and four airbags.
