A MAN who worked as Blackburn Rovers’ Roar the Lion mascot has been arrested on suspicion of sexual activity in the presence of a child.

The allegation has prompted Rovers to relieve Scott Henderson, 22, from the Wensley Fold area of Blackburn, of his duties at Ewood Park.

Henderson was one of several people to work as the mascot.

During the course of his duties as Roar, he would appear as the mascot at games, as well as attending children's birthday parties.

Henderson also helped out at the club's indoor football centre next to the Darwen End.

He was arrested on suspicion of sexual activity in the presence of a child.

It is understood the alleged victim is a 15-year-old boy.

The investigation centres on The Blackburn Rovers Indoor Centre, known as the Bric.

The astroturf football pitches are used by Blackburn Rovers youth players, as well as being hired out to scores of paying customers, including children, every day.

A club spokesman said: “Blackburn Rovers can confirm that Scott Henderson has been advised that the club is no longer prepared to offer him any casual work.”

The Lancashire Telegraph understands the Roar the Lion part is filled by a number of people on a rotating basis.

Lancashire Police said: "We can confirm that a 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual activity in the presence of a child.

"He was arrested at his home address and has been bailed until December 15, pending further inquiries."

The Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, which organises football-themed parties for 3 to 16-year-olds, also offers 'Roar' the Blackburn Rovers mascot as an 'extra special guest'.

When the Lancashire Telegraph approached Mr Henderson's home address, his family said he did not want to comment.
