Huncoat pitches saved from housing after protests

FOOTBALL pitches that had been earmarked for housing are being removed from a list which placed them at risk of development.

Thousands of signatures had been collected in a bid to save the open space in the centre of Huncoat after children realised sports pitches and open fields surrounding Spothouse Woodland were at risk of being developed.

The land, next to Bolton Avenue, was listed as suitable for housing development.

But following the outcry bosses at Hyndburn Council said they have stepped in.

Council leader Peter Britcliffe said: “I have visited the site at Bolton Avenue with members of the cabinet and Coun Malcolm Pritchard and can only say I agree with concerned local people that we must save this beautiful piece of green land for residents.

“A working group has been set up and has been told that this land will be changed in the new plan and that an alternative housing site needs to be found and it will be the remit of the working group to find the alternative site.”

Yet again we see Cll Britcliffe jumping on the bandwagon, when it was the two Independent Councillors for Huncoat Dave Parkins and Paul Gott that did the work by fighting the core strategy and bringing this to the attention of local people. Cll Britcliffe just jumps on board when he thinks there may be votes involved.

Good news, and a good reason to re-elect our independant councillors rather than those representing the big 2

i know this is a little off topic, but we are troubled by youths playing football in the streets, the ball repeatedly hits the windows but you have not to say anything to them, for fear of repuccussions, and then they say save the pitches, there is a huge field just off bolton avenue for the youths to play football on but they dont use it they would rather do it in site of our counsillor mr parkins who with the help of hes community police team are about as much use as a forest fire, they say they have upped there patrols around the area, yes in the afternoon when no youths are about but night time you dont see one community police officer on beat,so we the residents have to put up with youths running under your windows and banging on them and causung grief to us,while a counsillor not to far away sits with hes face on a billboard saying how wonderfull things are in huncoat, maybe he would feel different if he was recieving the grief that we have to endure.
