Blackburn College’s lifeline to help save museum

A CASH-strapped Lake District museum has been thrown a lifeline by Blackburn College.
The college has pledged a no-strings-attached £10,000 grant to the Save the Armitt campaign, which will enable the Ambleside museum and library to re-open at Easter.
The money will bridge a funding gap while a committee continues its fundraising appeal to put the reference library and museum on a firmer financial footing and secure its future.
College principal and chief executive Ian Clinton said he had visited the Armitt on a number of occasions and was impressed.
He also stressed that no tax-payers’ money was being used.
The donation was from the college’s commercial and international revenue.
