A NEW wheelie bin used to recycle household rubbish has been rolled out across parts of a borough today.

Hyndburn Council has brought in new wheelie bins to replace unpopular bags and contents which spill their contents in bad weather.

The new system means households will only have to split their recycling between two bins. The brown bin will be for paper, cardboard and waxed cartons and the blue bin will be for glass, cans and mixed plastics.

Bosses at the council hope the system will clean up its streets and improve its poor rate of keeping waste from going to landfill.

Residents in Rishton and parts of Great Harwood will be the first to use their new blue wheeled bins for recycling as the new scheme starts in the north of the borough today.

People who live in the south of the borough, such as Church, Accrington and Oswaldtwistle, will receive their new bins from July 9.

Council leader Miles Parkinson said: “We know any change takes time to bed in and we’re asking everyone to check the calendar in their information pack to get them started."
