PLANS to build a four bedroom house in the back garden of a home have been approved despite objections raised by neighbours.

Burnley Council has accepted a proposal from Andrew Hawthorne Architects to build the house on Ighten Road, Burnley.

The house will include four bedrooms, a garage, kitchen and dining room on the ground floor and a lounge on the first floor, which is set into the building to provide access to a covered balcony off the lounge.

It is proposed to be three storeys with the lower floor set into the land forming a basement level and spaces for three cars.

The application is a resubmission of an earlier one made in 2017, which was withdrawn amid concerns over loss of parking because of the scale of the proposal.

Two letters of objection were made to the application from neighbours on the grounds parking would become an issue on Ighten Road, the impact on pedestrian safety, increase in noise and disturbance and loss of sunlight to gardens.

Despite the concerns officers recommended approval after previous and initial Highway Authority concerns had been mitigated. A council officer said: "The development makes adequate provision for at least three cars within the curtilage of the property."

Councillors approved the application at Burnley Town Hall.
