A DAD has become a cult internet sensation after impersonating an elderly sports fan and prank-calling football clubs.

Paul Latham, who’s an engineer by trade, dons his cap and becomes ‘grandad’, a fictional old man who loves nothing more than his beloved Blackburn Rovers.

The 30-year-old has gained more than a million views on social media by calling up League One club shops on the eve of their fixture with Rovers and pranking them.

The season ticket holder started the character six months ago after putting on an old man’s voice with his friends.

The character developed and led to Mr Latham calling up club shops and talking about the weather, travelling to away grounds and other topics.

Mr Latham said his videos had gained so much popularity they have been shared around the club between players on Whatsapp.

He said: “The character has become something of a stereotypical old man who loves his football club.

“When I call up clubs I always try and keep it light-hearted, for example when I called up Wigan, I said, ‘I believe you have a player called Will Grigg? I believe he’s on fire.

“Well you don’t have to worry, we have Charlie Mulgrew who has an NVQ in fire safety so he’ll sort that right out.”

Mr Latham said he gets hundreds of people liking and sharing his videos on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

He said: “I was speaking to Derrick Williams from the club who said the videos get shared around the club on WhatsApp, I couldn’t believe it.

“It makes me feel incredibly happy to know I’m making people laugh and stay positive - as well as the fact people at the club love them too.”

“I never share them without the person’s consent and I never swear when speaking to the public because you want them to be on board.

“Everyone I have spoken to is very sporting and always stays on the phone.

“I’ve rung Wigan, Gillingham, Brighton and I’m planning on doing more.”

Mr Latham said he’s had a season ticket since the 1994/1995 title wining season and has always had a love for Rovers.

He added: “My little girls are too young at the moment to understand the videos but I’ll have to show them one day.

“I ended up talking to comedian Paddy McGuinness at one point about my character and he suggested getting a prosthetic done - I will have to see about that.”
