A 22-YEAR-OLD suffering from quadriplegic cerebral palsy will have his campaign showcased on national television.

Zack Kerr, of Howard Close, Accrington, has collected more than 122,000 signatures in support of his online petition to install accessible changing room facilities at all UK motorway service stations.

Hyndburn MP Graham Jones secured the former Beaumont College student’s visit to London to meet the then Transport Minister, Paul Maynard in November to discuss his petition.

His story and trip to London will be showcased on BBC1 North West show Inside Out tonight from 7.30pm.

Step-father Ceri Davies, 44, said the show involved the family being equipped with a GoPro camera to go into service stations on the way to London to showcase the facilities they are calling to be improved.

Mr Davies said: “It should certainly be an interesting site for the viewers.“It will show Zack as the active 22-year-old he is, not just sitting around doing nothing.

“A lot of people will see the door for disabled facilities and not really know what it is like behind there.

“In lots of place the handle is a bit lower and then it is just a little bit bigger inside.

“This should show what it’s like from the point of view of people who are disabled.

“It will show in stark reality how cramped these places really are.

“These facilities are required to enable him to have as fulfilled a life as anyone else.”

The show will feature Mr Kerr and his family travelling to London and presenting his petition to the Transport Minister.

Crews also follow the family on a trip around Brockholes Nature Reserve.

Mr Jones also arranged a tour of the Chamber for Zack where he was able to sit in a House of Commons debate which took place on the same day of his meeting with the Transport Minister.

It will also include an interview with him about his story conducted by show presenter Dianne Oxberry.

The family are yet to see the full show and will be watching it for the first time when it is shown on BBC1 on Monday.

Mr Davies said he is delighted to see the campaign has been such a success.

It was first launched online by Mr Kerr in August last year.

Mr Davies said: “We’re all really surprised that it has got this far so quickly.

“It has really really taken off, especially in such a short space of time, we’re so proud of Zack.

“In many ways we’ve already had a lot of success by raising so much awareness of Zack’s campaign.

“We’re pleased to see how many other campaigns people are looking at for improved disabled facilities because of what Zack has done.”

Mr Jones said: “It shows Zack’s campaign to introduce Changing Places toilets in every service station across the UK reaching the very heart of Government.

“From the start, Zack has meant business with this campaign and now after meeting the minister and presenting his petition at Downing Street we need to push this as far as it needed to see real change.”

People can also catch up on the show on BBC iPlayer after it is shown.
