A YOUNG man was glassed on the head during a 'serious assault' in a night club, police said.

Police were called to the incident in Great Harwood at 3.50am after reports that a 23-year-old had been hit in the face by a bottle during a fight with four men.

On arrival at Baggys Wine Bar in Glebe Street in the town they found the victim at the top of the stairs with blood pouring from cuts to his head and he was taken by ambulance to hospital.

Inspector John Fryer said: "This was a serious assault.

"We found the 23-year-old man at the top of the stairs of Baggys night club in Glebe Street, Great Harwood with cuts to his head.

"He was bleeding badly from the wounds.

"They looked quite serious cuts and he was taken to hospital.

"It appears he was assaulted by four other men with a bottle.

"The bottle broke on his head causing the cuts and the bleeding.

"They were quite nasty wounds.

"The other four men fled the club before police officers arrived.

"Detectives are investigating and anyone with any information should contact the police quoting log number 227/9/11."
