AN investigation is underway into a 'deliberate' rubbish fire which spread to the windows of a house in Blackburn.

The incident happened in King Bridge Street at around 2.30am this morning and three crews attended the scene for 45 minutes.

The fire started in a bin but spread to damage one of the windows.

A fire service spokesman said: "We think it was probably started deliberately.

"The fire spread to crack one of the windows due to heat and some smoke went into the house through a window.

"One person was in the house but they were nowhere near the fire.

"They were alerted by the smoke alarm and then called us to extinguish it."
