PREPARATIONS are in full swing for next month’s second Darwen Youth Festival with the town council’s mayor urging everyone to get involved.

Cllr Roy Davies said: “We need as many people as possible, young and old, to help with the organisation.

“This is an important event so the the more the merrier.”

Profits from last year’s went towards a defibrillator for the town centre in memory of tragic teenager Sky Nicol.

After the success of last year’s first youth festival, the young people have secured funding from Blackburn with Darwen Council to run it again at the youth centre and on Knott Street car park on Saturday July 22.

This year’s event features singers, bands and dancers on stage alongside activities in the youth club such as ‘Zorbing’ face painting, pottery and arts and crafts.

On Facebook, organisers say: “Come along and have some fun.”

The event was inspired and organised by the town’s young people led by then 14-year-old Elle Walsh.after a meeting at Knott Street Youth Centre with borough leisure chief Cllr Damian Talbot and Darwen town councillors.
