NEW plans to build 126 homes in Darwen have been recommended for approval by council officers.

The housing development has been proposed in Pole Lane by Ruttle Plant Holdings to ‘widen the choice’ of family housing in the borough.

The site was previously granted outline planning permission in 2013 for the erection of up to 133 homes.

Blackburn with Darwen Council’s planning and highways committee will make a final decision about the proposals this evening.

Approval is also being sought to upgrade and straighten nearby Spring Meadows Road.

A total of 13 residents have submitted letters of objection to the development.

Clive Weston, of Pole Lane, said in a letter to the council: “As a resident for 40 years my concerns regarding traffic fall into two categories.

“First the increased volume of traffic and secondly the speed at which traffic travels during all hours of the day and night.

Cath Marsden, also of Pole Lane, said in her letter of objection: “The idea of hundreds more families in this area is deeply worrying.

“Pole Lane is already too busy."
