EAST Lancashire would back Brexit if another referendum was held today, according to a poll of Lancashire Telegraph readers.

As Theresa May prepares to trigger Article 50 and formally begin the process of leaving the EU, we asked visitors to the LT website whether they would still vote the same way they did in last June’s landmark referendum.

Lancashire Telegraph:

The results, polled from a total of 577 readers, showed that just 38 per cent would choose to stay in Europe, with 61 per cent voting to leave, and 1 per cent saying they would not vote.

Back in June last year - a convincing majority of voters in East Lancashire voted to walk away from the European Union.

And while there may have been some slight variations across the board, the message from the electorate to the political class was clear.

And it seems the stance has only grown stronger.

Each of the six boroughs in turn elected to reject the UK's membership of the continental power broker, going further even than the mood nationally.

In June - Blackburn MP Kate Hollern said: "It's what we expected. The people have spoken. Now the government and all parties have to listen."
