A PROLIFIC shoplifter who continued offending despite being subject to a suspended prison sentence has been jailed for 36 weeks.
Blackburn magistrates heard Liam O'Reilly had failed to keep in contact with the probation service as well as committing further offences.
O'Reilly, 37, of Holden Fold, Darwen, pleaded guilty to breaching a suspended prison sentence order and six charges of shoplifting.
He was jailed for 18 weeks for the breach and a further 18 weeks for the new offences.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said not all the shoplifting offences had been committed since the suspended prison sentence was imposed in January.
"Since the order was imposed he has had trouble with accommodation and has not maintained contact with the probation service," said Mr Taylor.
"He is disappointed he has not been able to take advantage of the assistance that was offered to him on the last occasion."
