PEOPLE from across Hyndburn have reacted positively to news the council is offering £50 to people who help catch ‘dirty dog owners’.

As reported in the Lancashire Telegraph on Thursday, borough bosses are offering the money to anyone who reports owners failing to clean up after their pets.

They are hoping the move will help tackle the problem of dog fouling across Hyndburn.

People have said on Facebook the new initiative will provide opportunities to earn some extra money.

Tim Harrison said: “There is a lovely man with too many collies who will now be helping to pay my gas bill.”

Andrew Jackson said: “£500 quid an hour then.”

Debbie Walmsley said: “I would make a few quid near me.”

Stephen Fish said: “A nice little earner.”

People have also responded to the news on Facebook detailing their plans for the money collected.

Paula Blackburn said: “Maybe spend the money more wisely and clean up the fly tipping and litter and broken glass.

“Getting a bit fed up of dogs being picked on all time.”

Mick White said: “Next job, kids who smash bottles everywhere cutting dogs feet.”

In recent years, 100 extra dog bins have been placed around the area, bringing the total to 300, with another 54 in parks.

The council also offers free bags for owners to clear up their dog waste, available from its Scaitcliffe House office reception with a maximum of two packs per person.

Now the new campaign, launched under the name ‘Poo Dunnit?’, is set to reward residents who are active in fighting the problem.

People will be able to earn the £50 reward if the information provided leads to either a successful prosecution, or the issuing of a fixed penalty notice.

If the information provided leads to either a successful prosecution or the issuing of a Fixed Penalty Notice, then the council will pay out.
