MAGISTRATES have granted a closure order on a historic hall which was occupied by a group calling themselves Project Freedom.
Blackburn magistrates heard police had reacted to social media information that suggested there was going to be a rave at Horncliffe Mansion, Rawtenstall, a listed building described as one of the finest examples of its kind in Lancashire.

Applying for the order on behalf of Lancashire Constabulary, Luke McGrath said Horncliffe Mansion is a derelict property which the current owner, Nicola McManus, was in the process of renovation.
He said the property was occupied by someone who called himself Tony Freedom and a number of his associates who call themselves Project Freedom.
“They occupy large buildings in an attempt to save them,” said Mr McGrath.
“The police were made aware of plans for a rave which would have involved a large number of people. Police attended on Saturday to discuss what the intentions of the people were and a closure notice was served.”
Mr McGrath said the order, if confirmed by the magistrates, would prohibit anyone entering the premises except the owner or her authorised agents.
“After lengthy negotiations with the police the occupants eventually left,” said Mr McGrath.
The closure order granted by the magistrates will be in place for three months.
