THOSE inspired into action by Mo Farah and Team GB’s impressive showing in the Olympics can get free access to a number of sports on Saturday.

Numerous venues are hosting events on as part of ‘I Am Team GB’, billed as ‘Britain’s biggest-ever sports day’ Gym chain DW Fitness Clubs will open its Blackburn and Burnley clubs free of charge to residents. The company will be accepting visitors between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

DW Fitness Clubs owner and ex-Blackburn Rovers striker David Whelan, said: “By making our facilities available to anybody who wants to come along, We hope that those who might not have visited a gym before will enjoy themselves and see this as their first step on the path towards a healthier lifestyle.”

This initiative coincides with ITV’s decision to close all seven of its channels between 9.30am and 10.30am on the same day to celebrate Team GB’s most successful overseas Olympic Games ever.

It is hoped that this will encourage people to take part in the nation’s ‘biggest ever sports day’.

St Peter’s Leisure Centre Burnley Leisure are hosting a day of activities, all free of charge at the St Peter’s Centre including swimming from 9am until 5pm, squash courts from noon until5pm and netball training from 1pm until 2pm.

There will also be inflatable fun for children at Padiham Leisure Centre from 2pm until 3pm.

In Witton Country Park Blackburn, there will be a free, friendly timed 5km run on Saturday from 9am.

It is open to runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities.

A similar event will be held in Colne for the Pendle park run, again on Saturday, August 27 beginning at 9am.

Clitheroe and Blackburn Northern Ladies Hockey Club are holding an event at Littlemoor Road, Clitheroe, from 9am until 3pm.

Women and girls are invited to take part in matches and coaching masterclasses.
