A GYM instructor is combining playing the Pokémon Go computer game with fitness classes after he saw the potential for the game to ‘make people more active’.

Josh Glover, who enjoys playing the phone based outdoor game, said he had noticed that a lot of the players were getting outdoors more as a result of playing the game.

He has devised a programme, which he will deliver at both Witton Park in Blackburn and Rhyddings Park in Oswaldtwistle, which will involve a five kilometre walk or jog around the areas while collecting Pokémon characters, followed by a 15-minute light circuit workout, suitable for all levels of fitness.

Josh, 23, who comes from Nelson, runs his own fitness business Gloverstone Fitness and leads classes at Next Level Fitness in Mill Hill, Blackburn.

He said: “I’ve devised the programme so it adds value to playing Pokémon Go and at the same time give some light exercise.

“Both the areas are popular with people playing the game and there’s a feature where you can speed up the egg hatching process by jogging or walking quickly so I’ve devised a circuit around the parks.

“I received a lot of interest and am hoping some others will join us when the classes start next week.”

The classes, which are suitable for those aged 13 and are provisionally set for Rhyddings Park on Saturday, September 3 at noon and Witton Park on Wednesday evenings from 5.30pm.
