DARRENERS were spoilt for choice this weekend when two popular events were held in the town on the same day.
Ex-Blackburn Rovers star David Dunn opened up the 51st Darwen Gala where there were classics such as the parade and races to Darwen Tower going on plus the Lost Dads’ Tent with real ale and drinks on offer.

Meanwhile in the town centre turned back the clock to the 1940s for the seventh year with a tea dance, period costumes, wartime singalongs and re-enactors.
Mayor of Darwen Cllr Brian Taylor, who also opened the Gala, said he was delighted with both events.
He said: “I think both the 40s day and the Gala were very well attended despite the typical Darwen weather.
“I opened the Gala and when I left to go to the 40s day I saw lots of people coming up Borough Road so that is really encouraging.
“I would like to thank the Gala committee for keeping the event going after the last team resigned. They’re both very important events to not town and I hope they can keep happening every year.”
