EUROGARAGES bosses Mohsin and Zuber Issa are one of several East Lancashire people to feature in the 2016 Sunday Times Rich List.

The brothers, who founded the rapidly expanding Blackburn-based company, come joint 164th in the list with a worth of £700million, up from 637th and £150m in 2015.

They are the 12th biggest riser in the 1,000-name catalogue of wealth.

Rossendale-born John Whittaker, who owns development company Peel Holdings, the company behind the building of the Trafford Centre, is named the country’s 47rd richest person, down four places, with an estimated fortune of £2.134billion.

Burnley’s Ted Fort, owner of Fort Vale Engineering, comes 65th, worth £158m.

Peter Hargreaves, who went to Clitheroe Royal Grammar School and co-founded broking group Hargreaves Lansdown plc, dropped one place to 50th, worth £2.15bn.

The Blackburn-based Walker family, former benefactors of the town’s football team, are ranked at No. 220, worth £530m.

Former Rovers full-back Dave Whelan, 79, is worth around £230m at No. 452.

Rod Aldridge, founder of outsourcing firm Capita, and backer of the Darwen Aldridge Academy chain, is worth £130m at 766.

East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce chief executive, Mike Damms, said: “It is good to see East Lancashire and its spirit of entrepreneurship firing on all cylinders across a wide range of sectors.”
