A 27-YEAR-OLD woman arrested outside a Blackburn pub screamed racist insults and called the arresting officer a terrorist.

Blackburn magistrates heard when Emma Roach was taken to Greenbank police station she abused female staff and made a racist comment while addressing the custody sergeant.

And as she was being placed in a cell she spat in the face of a civilian detention officer.

Roach, of Brothers Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assaulting Karen Fielding and racially aggravated threatening behaviour.

She was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 10 days rehabilitation activity requirement, do 150 hours unpaid work and pay £300 compensation.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said PC Zain Ulhaq attended a report of a woman causing problems at the Blackburn Times pub on Northgate. When he arrived she was being detained by staff. A member of the public was trying to calm her.

“She called the officer racist names, including saying he was a terrorist, and then started to scream that she had been raped,” said Miss Allan.

Ian Huggan, defending, said his client was thoroughly embarrassed and ashamed to be before the court.

“On the day in question she got quite close to an emotional breakdown,” said Mr Huggan. “She had lost her job, she thought unfairly, she had split up with her boyfriend, her grandmother was ill and her uncle had recently passed away.

“There was a build up of factors and she had been drinking to excess.”
