A COUNCILLOR has branded it unacceptable that residents in a Blackburn street have waited for over two months to have a pot hole repaired.

Blackburn with Darwen Council were initially told about the problem in Brookfield Street on September 4 and sent engineers to inspect it on September 7.

Barriers were placed around the pothole which is on the road outside number 28 but no work has been done since to fix the problems.

And Shear Brow ward councillor Hussain Akhtar said he has received a number of complaints from residents about the pothole and was told by the council yesterday that it would be filled in as a matter of priority.

Cllr Akhtar said: “It is unacceptable that it has been left like this for so long. A number of residents have contacted me about it. They are very unhappy and have raised concerns about parking, the fact it is an eyesore and that nothing has been done about it for so long.

“I contacted the council yesterday and they said it had been low down on their list but it would now be treated as a priority.

“I know residents have been left frustrated by this but they must understand that the council is having its budget cut. We have fewer resources.”

But Blackburn with Darwen Council say they have attempted to access the site on 13 separate occasions but residents have refused to move their cars to enable work vehicle access.

A spokeswoman for the council said: “We have attempted to access the site on 13 separate occasions and requested that the residents move vehicles to allow us to access the area but have been unsuccessful.”
