A MOTORCYCLIST claimed he skidded on horse droppings before colliding with a van travelling in the opposite direction.

Blackburn magistrates heard the 8.15am collision occurred just after Andrew Ira West had overtaken an Alfa Romeo on Lottice Lane, Knuzden.

Parvenn Akhtar told magistrates that as West, who was riding a Kawasaki ZX 900, overtook the Alfa Romeo he was confronted by a Mercedes van travelling in the opposite direction.

“He said he skidded on some horse manure and crashed into the van,” added Miss Akhtar.

West, of Charles Street, Waterfoot, was convicted in his absence of driving without due care and attention.

He was fined £130, with £105 costs, and his licence endorsed with three points.
