A KNIFE amnesty is continuing in East Lancashire.

Since Lancashire Police launched the campaign to get people to surrender an weapons in August, more than 400 knives, including swords, machetes and commando knives.

As part of the scheme, people can hand in knives at any police station with a front counter as well as dropping them off anonymously in designated bins.

Det Insp Warren Atkinson said: “We’ve been really pleased with the response so far but we want to take even more knives of Lancashire’s streets.

“A significant number of weapons, which are capable of doing serious damage, have already been handed in, which shows it was the right thing to do this amnesty.

“Who knows what could have happened if these knives had remained on Lancashire’s streets.”

In total, 75 knives have been handed in in East Lancashire.

The amnesty continues until September 29. There are drop- off bins outside Burnley, Darwen, Nelson and Chorley.
