THIS school certainly isn’t a blot on the landscape.

With help from artists at the Ribble Valley Art Studio in Clitheroe, Higham St John Primary School has had a total makeover and now its almost as if it isn’t there at all.

Using 24 pots of paint and eight different colours Barrowford-based artist Keith Parkinson, has painted the landscape obscured by the school building directly on to its walls.

Subtle references to former teaching assistant Lillian Heyworth, 61, who died in October, have been included as a memorial.

They included a sparkling of which she was well known for.

Mrs Heyworth had worked at the school for almost 30 years after first going to work there as a dinner lady.

With help from staff and pupils, Keith, 55, created the piece with masonry paint in eight days and completed the last brush stroke on Tuesday.

Keith, who helps to run the Ribble Valley Art Studio in Clitheroe, said: “I’m really pleased with it and the reaction to it on Facebook has been great.

“The parents, staff and children have also been very kind.

“It was a great thing to be involved in and the pupils were a great help making sure everything was lined up.”

Gareth Hollinghurst, headteacher at the Higham Hall Road school, said: “It’s all about making the most of the environment that surrounds the school.

“We are celebrating the fact that we are not in the middle of a concrete jungle.

“The staff and pupils have been involved throughout and it’s a great addition to the building.

“Having the references to Mrs Heyworth is important and special for those who knew her.”

Since when has Higham been in Clitheroe? It's now even in the Ribble Valley, so why is it in Ribble Valley news? Useless!!
