Parking problems at Clitheroe hospital

Lancashire Telegraph: Parking problems at Clitheroe hospital Parking problems at Clitheroe hospital

PARKING problems have been reported at Clitheroe’s new community hospital following it’s official opening last month.

Bosses at the East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust (ELHT) said they have been made aware of the issue at the Chatburn Road site, and are speaking to NHS Property Services to resolve the situation.

The hospital has 58 free parking spaces, but patients have complained of struggling to find a spot.

A resident has also cited traffic issues in Chatburn Road, which is being used for parking by some patients and visitors.

Martin Morgan, director of Estates and Facilities at ELHT, said: “The new Clitheroe Hospital was designed by East Lancashire Building Partnership and the allocation of parking spaces was agreed with the local planning authority.

“We are aware of the car parking difficulties now the hospital is operational and are consulting with NHS Property Services and the local planning authority in an attempt to resolve the situation.”

The hospital also houses the town’s ambulance station, which was recently moved from Princess Avenue.

Does anybody know if the free 58 parking spaces also include staff parking spaces? Or is there a separate staff car park?

I can only assume there are well over 60 members of staff at the hospital at any 1 time, possibly more?

Now watch the road near the hospital become double yellow lines.

Planning dept logic is....Lets get people to park in Skipton and open up a park and ride scheme. We can make money on that to send Nigel Evans around the Pacific promoting gay rights with.

According to the Advertiser (where the telegraph copied the story from) the 58 spaces includes the staff parking so I have no idea how many work there but quite a few spaces will be taken up by their cars.

So basically no free patient parking then? (Or even any extra pay & display?) And the NHS 'property services' are now going to look into it?

Sounds like another well thought out planning mistake. Wonder what Nigel Evans says about this?

It's all a bit to late now, but even I could spot this coming, it's just to far out of town and of course people are going to drive to it. It needs a huge car park and I can't see what coming any time soon.

The bent bastards at LCC will probably use it as an excuse to cut the speed limit from 40 to 30 because evening visiting times will be after dark in the winter and at 40 you need sidelights !

The parking farce at Clitheroe Hospital was constantly mentioned to the planners on site from the very first turf being lifted, the staff were assured that there would be enough parking, yet if you happen to arrive on shift after 9am you have little chance of finding a space. There is no separate provision for staff, we too have to fight for one of the 58 parking spaces and I know there is well over a 100 staff there.
The disabled bays are being used by anyone and this is not being policed and the 10 minute drop off bays are full constantly for hours. The whole place is a farce, the planners should be ashamed !
