Kivells of Holsworthy saw a superb entry of 268 Store Cattle sell to a top of £1390 for a bunch of 4 tremendous Charolais stores from Jim & Louise Byrne whilst best heifers came from Richard & Ken Ford of Bideford at £1215.
Plenty of vendors up & over the £1100 bracket with an overall market average of £807.91. In the prime cattle pens premium was set at 214ppk for heifers from Webbery Farm and the top value stood at an impressive £1397.
The best of a tight entry of cull cows hit £907 for Messrs Beer Brothers of Great Shortridge. 109 baby calves saw trade push on upwards even further to a top call of £455 for Messrs Wooldridge with Messrs Furse close up at £440. 75 dairy stock went under the hammer topping at £2220 on behalf of Messrs Mitchell with Messrs Hooper & Son at £2050 and Mr Waldon of South Molton at £2000.
A tidy consignment of youngstock from Messrs Wastenage of Budleigh Salterton sold really well to a top of £480. 1262 sheep saw a flying trade for the prime hoggs with 20 pens over the £90 bracket topping at £94 for Barry & Terry Baker of Torrington, with John Allin of Docton close up at £92.80.
Premium was set by Messrs Piper & Son at 202ppk. 317 cull ewes saw a top call of £99 for Mike Baker of Torrington with plenty of big ewes up and over the £90. Best couples topped at £172 again from Mike Baker.
161 pigs saw the entry of 21 cull sows top at £200 for Les Higgins of Liskeard with Messrs Braunton of Bude close up at £198. Messrs Morris of Pendeen made the long journey up Penzance and were well rewarded at £170. Best finished pigs saw Messrs Burnett of St Austell enjoy a cracking trade with their best at £112 and Messrs Ivins of Wadebridge at £106 closely followed by John Kingdon of Newquay at £104.
480 lots of Poultry saw the best ‘White Cheeked Rosella’s’ from Mr Dunscombe of Whiddon Down at £45 with Messrs Bake of Torrington not far back at £40. One of the biggest ever sales of machinery ever seen a Holsworthy saw more than 2000 lots go under the hammer topping at £12,100 for a round baler from Jim & Rich Hookway of St. Giles closely followed at £8,400 for a Keenan Feeder wagon from Mike Jordan of Ashwater.
