Councillors look to crackdown on Blackburn Shisha bars

Lancashire Telegraph: Councillors look to crackdown on Blackburn Shisha bars Councillors look to crackdown on Blackburn Shisha bars

WATCHDOG councillors are to look at efforts to crackdown on Shisha bars in Blackburn and Darwen.

They have now received a report from the environment department on current progress to deal with the mushrooming number of such premises in the borough.

Jim Shorrock, who chairs the council’s Policy and Corporate Resources Overview and Scrutiny Committee, said the cross-party body had now put the issue of Shisha bars at the top of its agenda for the coming year.

He promised it would ‘consider a broad range of issues when analysing and conducting its review’.

The Shadsworth with Whitebirk Labour councillor welcomed the news that borough officials were making renewed efforts to get owners to comply with anti-smoking and health and safety laws with one facing prosecution.

He also revealed to the Blackburn with Darwen’s full council forum that the committee would be examining the progress of the borough’s efforts to tackle scrap metal theft.

Shisha bars thriving, night life diving.

It doesn't take a genius to put two and two together in Blackburn.

I don't know what the answer is but something's seriously bust.

This is the beginning of Blackburn with Darwen Council ‘Making everything better’ before Jack Straw’s Safe Seat becomes available again next year. This should have been tackled years ago. Let’s hope his predecessor will also want Blackburn to return to what it was before his arrival. A very tall order for anyone to achieve due to Blackburn’s present racial disharmony. Fingers crossed!

While we are at it ,what about looking at the consumption of the stimulant Khat which is also chewed at the same time as smoking shisha pipes. This drug although legal at the moment is due to be banned this year but has similar effects as cannabis.

Not going to ask if you get your shisha, from an hookah, on St Peter St then,
as I could get into trouble here.
Am already on a caution, for going into a brothel and asking for a bowl of soup.

Hands up if you've even been to a sheesha bar? My guess is you havent! If you havent then you shoudnt pass comments about them. The only reason they have cameras is because its illegal to smoke indoors. I dont have a hookah pipe so what do i do?? Since the smoking ban came in all we have achieved is the closure of pubs all accross the town and no night life in our town. I say we should licence these places and enjoy it. Let the police worry about more serious issues in town...

Smoking is NOT allowed indoors! What makes the largely Muslim ownership so special that rules don't apply to them or shouldn't apply to them? This is the United Kingdom and rules are rules;if you don't like it you know where the ports and airports are!

Asians constantly flout the laws of this land in particular the planning laws.in most cases they do something and then apply for retrospective planning hoping that the local councils will fall soft on them for fear of being deemed racists.also a growing majority of them think only shia law matters.when they do get caught out the favourite excuse for not taking any notice is that they were out of the country, well they are because a lot of these people live abroad but use this country as an easy scource of income.these parasites make it difficult for the hard working honest Asians who make a living here.no racism but truth only intended.

Year olds found on these premises ,, that's a fact ask mr jack straw he's been there , and couldn't get in for ten mins ,,, bet the owner never knew it used to be a funeral parlor and bodies used to be kept there over night ( was in telegraph last week with pictures , dark attracts dark I suppose )

I'm absolutely astonished that this is allowed at all. It's perfectly clear that it's illegal if (as I assume) it's being carried on in enclosed premises.

One hour's smoking shisha is the equivalent of smoking ONE HUNDRED cigarettes. How can any responsible public authority possibly allow such a murderous activity to be carried on for profit.

If I were Chief Exec at BwD Council I would be very seriously worried about the Council being sued by future victims of lung cancer and heart disease. I think they would have an excellent claim against the Council for breach of statutory duty in failing to enforce the law.
