MOUNTAIN rescuers who provide support and help to walkers in the moors around Darwen raised more than £250 last month.

Bolton Mountain Rescue Team has revealed it raised £256.22 through its collection boxes in the month of January.

Team leader Garry Rhodes said: “We currently have 122 collection boxes out and about in the team’s operational area and with a small number of individual supporters.

“Sadly no monies were ever recovered after the theft of the contents of our box at Vaughn’s Country Cafe at Roddlesworth, Tockholes.

“We continue to feel that there is tremendous scope to increase the number of boxes we have out in the local community.

“Our target figure remains to increase the number of boxes we have out and about to 150.”
