A HOUSING action group has vowed to continue to fight large developments if the core strategy is approved by the government.

A decision on the borough council’s housing plan is expected in April.

A consultation has recently concluded in Clitheroe into the core strategy, which will dictate how many houses can be built in the Ribble Valley.

Nick Walker, chairman of the Save Whalley Village Action Group, said: “We spoke at the consultation and argued against large housing developments.

“We are hoping for a positive outcome but we are still sceptical.”

The council has said 5,000 houses could be built in the borough during the next five years if the plans are signed off by the government.

The council’s previous core strategy was rejected by the government in 2012 due to evidence concerns.
