Great Harwood Farmers’ markets a boost for town

GREAT Harwood Farmers’ Market has raised more than £4,000 for charity.

The market was launched last March and now has around 30 local traders hosting stands on the first Sunday of every month.

Each trader pays a small sum to charity and the total has now reached £4,000.

The market has also been praised for bringing life back into the local economy, and attracting visitors frotm outside the borough.

Deputy leader of Hyndburn Council, Coun Clare Pritchard, said: “It’s been a real pleasure to support the development of the Farmers’ Market. The wooden chalets we have provided have enhanced the look and feel of the market and have been very popular.

“The market has galvanised the whole community.”

Whatever claims find favour here - that wooden retail units are attractive, that 'farmers' have given regular small amounts to charity, that economic life itself was absent before March last year - I include among them my claim that what is offered at this market can be had for less elsewhere.
