A NEW campaign is encouraging families in Lancashire to take one easy step to cutting sugar and fat from their diet.

The Change4Life TV advertising campaign, commissioned by Public Health England to run in January, will focus on swapping sugary drinks for diet, sugar free, or milk. By doing so, an average family could save up to three- quarters of a 1kg bag of sugar over four weeks.

The campaign comes after latest data showed more than a third of children aged 10 to 11 in Cumbria and Lancashire carry excess weight.

Professor Kevin Fenton, director of health and wellbeing for Public Health England, said: “Figures from the National Child Measurement Programme show that more needs to bedone to help local families cut out certain unhealthy elements of their diet, in order to improve their health.

“Swapping like-for-like food in your diet could help you cut out surprising levels of fat, sugar and, ultimately, calories.”
