ROADS around Clitheroe will be closed to motorists on Sunday for the 2013 Ribble Valley 10k Road Race.

From 9.30am until noon Edisford Road in Clitheroe will close from its junction with Lancaster Drive to the B6243.

The C573 will close from its junction with Edisford Road to the C574 in Bashall Eaves and at its junctions with Bashall Lane, Twitter Lane and Birdy Brow.

The C574 will also close from Bashall Eaves to its junction with the B6243 in Great Mitton.

The event, organised by Blackburn Harriers and Athletic Club, and supported by Ribble Valley Borough Council, Lancashire County Council and Lancashire police, is expected to attract more than 1,000 participants, including some of the UK’s top long-distance runners.

Harriers’ spokesman George Davies said: “Our primary concern is the safety of the runners and other road users, along with minimum disruption to the community.

“Some of the best endurance athletes in the country are expected to take part in the race and residents are welcome to come along and watch or compete if they want to shift some Christmas lunch.”

The race starts at 10.30am at Roefield Leisure Centre in Edisford Road, Clitheroe. Call George on 01254 771556 for further details.
