THREE people were hauled before magistrates after failing to remove rubbish from their properties.

John Lomax, Roy Silva, and Danielle Nolan, all of Accrington, were convicted after ignoring abatement orders.

Lomax, of Maudsley Street, was found guilty in his absence of failing to clean up his property after being ordered to by council workers.

He was made to pay £270 in fines and clean-up costs.

Similarly, Roy Silva was ordered to pay £520 after failing to remove an accumulation of waste from his home in Whalley Road.

And Danielle Nolan, of Manor Street, was convicted after failing to clear refuse from her home and was fined £555 in fines and clean-up costs.

None were in court to hear their cases.

Deputy leader of Hyndburn Council, Clare Pritchard, said: “These three cases again demonstrate our proactive approach to dealing with people who refuse to clean up their rubbish.

“We won’t tolerate it. We’ll investigate and, where appropriate, take people to court if they fail to clean up their rubbish.”
