11:00am Saturday 7th December 2013 in News
A DRIVER collided with a four-year-old boy who was crossing the road and did not stop.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident in Oswaldtwistle on Thursday night.
The youngster was with his family, crossing Haworth Street at 6.30pm when the accident happened.
The boy’s dad told officers that while he and his family were crossing the road, the lights changed to amber, he heard the squealing of tyres and saw a BMW hit his son.
He threw a bag of sugar he was carrying at the car, which he said he believed was being driven by an Asian man with a young girl in the back seat.
The car, a dark 02 plate, drove away.
PC Kate Brady from the Road Policing Unit said: “Fortunately the little boy only sustained minor cuts to his legs and bruising but we need to trace the car involved and would appeal to anybody that witnessed the incident to come forward.
“I would also appeal directly to the driver of the car to contact the police so we can establish the full circumstances of exactly what happened.”
