Trains cancelled after jump threat
1:00pm Monday 7th October 2013 in News
TRAINS were cancelled and a Darwen road closed after a man threatened to jump from a railway bridge.
Police and the fire service were called to Sudell Road at around 12.40am on Saturday morning when the man climbed onto the bridge.
Northern Rail cancelled train services, and put on replacement bus services and taxis for stranded passengers.
After negotiating with the man, believed to be suffering from health problems, emergency workers rescued him at around 1.50am.
A spokesman for the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed an aerial platform ladder had been called to the Sainsbury’s car park, off Sudell Road, to assist the police.
And Chief Superintendent Bob Eastwood tweeted: “Cops and colleagues at Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service rescued man with mental health illness, intent on jumping from railway bridge. Good outcome after four hours.”
