12:02pm Monday 7th October 2013 in News
A MAN was in a critical condition last night after he was stabbed repeatedly in the stomach.
The victim, who is Lithuanian and in his 30s, required emergency surgery after the attack on the Shadsworth estate, in Blackburn.
Three men aged 24, 31 and 37, all from Blackburn, have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent. They were in police custody last night.
An investigation into the stabbing has been launched and forensic officers wearing white suits were scouring the area around Orkney Close for evidence yesterday afternoon.
The weapon, which police believe was a knife, had not been recovered last night.
It is understood the man, who lived in Blackburn, knew his attackers and that the stabbing followed an argument One resident, who asked not to be named, said he had heard a gang of people shouting outside his home moments before the attack, which happened at around 11pm on Saturday.
The 18-year-old said: “It was dark and quite late. Everybody was just kicking off.
There were about 14 or 15 people shouting and it was going on for hours. And then somone got stabbed.
“He is the dad of one of my friends and he is Lithuanian, but lives in Blackburn.
I heard he was at hospital being operated on. “There were two police vans, two cars and an ambulance.
To be honest, I am not shocked at all. This kind of thing happens quite often, but not usually to this extent.”
Police were called to the scene by paramedics, who took the victim to the Royal Preston Hospital.
A cordon was put in place around the grassed area and pathway between Orkney Close and Dunoon Drive while forensic investigators searched the area.
A white sheet lay where the man fell to the ground, with yellow numbered cones marking key clues.
Door-to-door inquiries were also carried out. Det Supt Steve Pemberton said: "An investigation is under way and we are working to establish exactly how and why this man has suffered such serious injuries.
"A police cordon was in place in Orkney Close yesterday as we made inquiries.
“One of our main priorities at this stage is tracing the man's family.
"If anybody was in the area around the time of the assault and has any information which they think could assist our investigation then I would urge them to contact police."
Anybody with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
