Police link sex Oswaldtwistle offences
POLICE have linked two incidents in which a man was seen committing a sex act in public in Oswaldtwistle.
A 40-year-old woman was left shaken by the latest incident at White Ash Brook on Friday evening, and police have now stepped up patrols in the area.
Detective Sergeant Mike Haworth-Oates said a similar incident happened at the nearby Fox Hill Bank Nature Reserve the previous Friday, at about the same time, and believes it was likely to have been the same offender.
He has issued an urgent appeal for witnesses and added: “It’s very worrying behaviour from this individual who we are trying to identify.
“This is an area where children often walk to and from school, so I would ask anyone who uses that area to be vigilant and report anything they see.”
The incident in White Ash Brook, which is just off Harvey Street, happened at about 4pm, when the woman walked along a path and witnessed the man in some bushes.
When she saw him, the offender ran down the path and drove away in a black Volkswagen Golf.
He was described as a white male, about 50-years-old, with short grey hair.
The previous Friday, at about 4.15pm, another lady noticed a man committing a sex act at Fox Hill Bank.
DS Haworth-Oates said: “The witness couldn’t put an age on the man, but I’m suggesting these incidents may well be linked because of their proximity to each other.
“This is an area well used by dog walkers and kids and it’s possible others have seen this man in the area.”
Anyone with information call the police on 101.
